Where Is This Higher Standard We Keep Hearing About?
If it would earn me the needle, it needs to earn the man behind the badge the needle.
Let’s say, figuratively, that 4 of my girlfriends and I decide we’re going to go and rob the corner store on a Saturday morning. My girlfriend goes inside, the clerk protests, and she shoots him. He loses his life at the scene.
What is going to happen?
Here in Florida, she’s going to be charged with 1st-degree homicide, because it’s during the commission of a felony (armed robbery). Every single one of my girls in the car is being charged WITH THE SAME CRIME.
Why? If one of us did it, in the eyes of the law we all did it.
I want the same justice for George Floyd. I want every one of those cops to be charged the same way that a civilian would be charged.
That cop murdered him. And as if that isn’t fucked up enough, his brethren are standing there, holding the crowd back to allow him to murder George.
This isn’t reckless homicide. This isn’t manslaughter. This is premeditated. 8 full minutes, y’all. He had 8 full minutes to decide not to take this man’s life from him.
We see the choice that he made. And as that asshole made that choice, his brothers in badge made the choice to defend him and to allow him to murder a handcuffed and face down on the pavement man.
Anything less than 4 indictments for murder is an affront to justice. Anything less than 4 indictments saying that we as a nation are tired of losing unarmed black men like animals in the street, it’s a slap in the face to every civil rights activist that ever marched in our streets.
This has to end. This has to end right fucking now.
