France Criminilizes Conversion Therapy...
Because electrocuting the gay out of your kids is "barbaric". Duh.
Okay, boys and girls, let’s all take a moment to discuss France, and not for the reasons we usually discuss France. Which are, of course, not many. Today, President Emmanuel Macron decried the practice of conversion therapy as “barbaric”, and spoke of the pride in being a country who has decriminalized being gay for the past 40 years.
He also stated, “Being oneself is not a crime”. Yessir. Damned skippy.
The law unanimously passed the National Assembly, 142-0, and the assholes who break it can look forward to two years in prison, and a 30K fine. I don’t know how much that translates to, and I don’t care, I just know that if it’s enough to keep people from trying to zap the gay out of their kid, it’s enough for me.
We live in a time of social and moral fabric changes. What was considered deviant in the 1950’s is mainstream today. For some people, that’s discomforting. However, what I beg of those people is this: it was also considered okay to beat your wife in the 1950’s, is that okay today? And, of course, if you answered yes to that, you’re in the wrong locale, buddy. You should see yourself out, before I need to fold your laundry with you in it.
I don’t get involved in the bedroom affairs of my readers. I never have, I never will unless you specifically come to me for my advice. Y’all know this, it’s an understanding we’ve always had. I will tell you that over on Q, I had several gay/bi teens come to me and tell me of parents abusing them. One to the point I sent their info to a friend that I knew could contact social services in an official capacity.
Why? Because I’m a protector of those who cannot protect themselves. I guess that’s the Queen Mother in me, I will always smite those fuckers who pick on those smaller or weaker. And I know LGBTQ has traction now, but 15 years ago I was doing the St. Pete PRIDE parade in my ribbon halo, and standing up for their glittery ass selves, long before the movement became a real movement.
It’s just who I am.
I don’t have a dog in this race. This isn’t my personal fight. But as a person, it should be your fight. And this is why: when they tell you what you can do in your bedroom, next they’ll come to tell you what you can do on your lawn. Then they’ll tell you that your thoughts are subject, or your intentions are suspect, or exactly how you’ll feel about this, that, or the third.
Nobody, from Congress to the Baptist church down the street, has any business passing judgment, changing anyone, or controlling the behavior of anyone in the privacy of their own home. If your religion says you do, you need to get a new fucking religion. I grew up Catholic, and yet I’m not a complete and total judgemental dick, so it can be done.
So, congratulations France, and the countries like Canada and Brazil who already had this figured out. It’s a shame that for the “most forward thinking” place in the world, we still think we can order people what to do with their own bodies in their own bedrooms. We should really say less and do better around here, y’all.
Euro to Dollar is about 1.13x so call it 34k in greenbacks. The French (and Italians, and Norwegians and English, and Swedes, and...*sigh*) have always been more sane about the religion vs sex thing than the US nutter evangelical.. we'll, at least since they came out of those Dark Ages and we missed that march.
Me? With whom and how y'all rub your fuzzy bits ain't none of my concern so long as everyone is both of age and freely consenting.
I've always figured that if it bothers religious folk they probably ought just reel their long damned noses in, and quit fucking peeking in bedroom windows what ain't theirs.
It's a Good Thing Jesus loves them so, ain't it? ;}
But hey, what do I know? My people helped run that wannabe dictator Paul Cantrell (the original Boss Hog) out of Athens, TN.
My grandpa was a preacher, I grew up in the church. Yet I was taught from a very young age the Bible verse John 8:7 in layman's terms, "Let those without sin cast the 1st stone". Those who live in glass houses shouldn't cast stones. Ain't none of us without sin so we shouldn't be judging anyone! I have several members of my family as well as friends that are part of the LGBTQ community & I will always rally for them. I'm glad France got the memo. And as always Queen, beautifully written!💞
